HomeMy WebLinkAbout1987-03-28-Special MinutesMarch 28,1987 A special meeting of the Waukee City Council was called to order on March 28,1987 at 9:07 a.m.by Mayor Gordon Christianson. A roll call was taken arid the following named Councilmen were present:Gruber,Tovrea and Hoifeldt.Absent:.Brown and Stork. Guests and staff at this meeting were:Nick Gruber,Floyd Rosenkranz, Leigh Davis,Lloyd Royer,Dick Applegate,Roger Buffington,Ray Clark,Mark Casey and Brian Redshaw. Bill Inman of Woodwright Consturction requested preliminary plat approval for Mary Ann Estates III and IV.Floyd Rosenkranz,chair- man of P &Z,relayed their comments. Moved by Hoifeldt,second by Tovrea,to approve the preliminary plat of Mary Ann Estates III and IV with cash equivalent of park land.Carried 4 to O. Moved by Gruber,second by Tovrea,to approve the purchase of a 30 horsepower Toshiba electric motor in the amount of $602.49 from 3E Electric in Des Moines.Carried 3 toO. Moved by Hoifeldt,second by Gruber,to request an extension to June 1 for sewer lagoon plans and specifications.Carried 3 to O. The City Council discussed the pros and cons of annexing Southfork addition.The Council agreed that extending water main near the development would not be feasible unless the development was within the Waukee city limits. Wayne H.McKinney,house representative,spoke to the City Council and reviewed the status of major bills in the house.He discussed education,water quality,economic development and the state budget deficit.He also discussed state money distribution,equitable distribution,lottery money and the crisis management mentality of state agencies.He indicated that the focus of economic devel- opment should be on the retainage of small businesses rather than the pursuit of 'saturn plants'. Mayor Gordon Christianson suggested extending the 12"water main to l42nd SL (west city limits of Clive)in anticipation of a future connection with the Des Moines water works should water system operation costs become excessive. Moved by Gruber,second by Tovrea,to adjourn at 11:25 a s m,Carried 3 to O. Meeting adjourned.
