Mayor Donald Bailey.

Berger.
INTRODUCTION OF BUDGET COMMITTEE MEMEERS:The Bndget Committee members were
introduced.Public committee members in attendance were:Jay Oxenford,Jerry Crow,Joe Schmidt,and
Ed Butler.Two other members,Mark Leslie and Jeff Heemstra,could not attend.
DISTRIBUTION OF DRAFT FY 2000-2001 PRELIMINARY BUDGET:The Budget Committee
notebooks were handed out.City Administrator Mark J.Arentsen went over what the notebooks consisted
of and discussed the different worksheets.Councilman Peard requested that dividers be prepared for the
budget books by the next meeting.
Some of the members of the Committee discussed some of their concerns regarding School Crossing
Guards,Fire Department Response charges and Township Revenues.They would like to know what other
communities are doing.
Councilman Watts asked abont employee health insurance.Mark said a meeting is planned for the week of
January 17.
Mayor Bailey requested that base budgets be developed for each department.
Mark said the valuation we are using is over $132,000,000.These numbers came from the Dallas County's
Auditors office on January 10.
Mark mentioned that wages for all departments should be solidified.Councilman Gruber agreed that the
wage(s)should be solidified.1
Hiring a City Engineer was heavily discussed.Mark suggested that it be discussed in greater detail later in
the budget discussions.

January 20,2000 -January 25,2000 -February 1,2000 -All Meetings @ 6:30PM

Moved by Councilman Peard and second by Councilman Watts to adjourn at 6:30PM.Motion carried 5-0.
