CITY COUNCIL MINUTES
MARCH 7,2000
The March 7,2000 Special Meeting of the Waukee City Council was called to order by
Mayor Donald L.Bailey,Jr.at 7:00PM.Present were Mayor Bailey and Council
members Gruber,Berger,Watts and Johnson.Council member Peard arrived at 7:15PM.
Also present were City Administrator Mark Arentsen,Public Works Director John
Gibson,Finance Director designate Kathy Coleson Homer,members of the Waukee
Library Foundation and several members of the public.
Mayor Bailey asked Foundation Chairperson Judy Phipps to update the Council on the
status of the effort to fund and construct a new library.Ms.Phipps indicated that the
fund raising project is moving into its next phase which involves direct contact with
Waukee organizations and residents.Several Council members indicated an interest in
directly participating in this component of the fund raising effort.The importance of
including the Library project in the City's new Capital Improvements Plan was discussed.
Renderings of the proposed new building on the new lot were shown.The Council and
Foundation discussed the City's debt capacity and the need to reserve some of the debt
capacity for the new building project.Ms.Phipps indicated that the next component of
the fund raising effort would be completed in May.The Foundation and Council agreed
to meet again at that time to discuss the status of the project.j
A motion was made by Watts seconded by Peard to adjourn.Motion passed.Mayor
Bailey declared the meeting adjourned at 8:25PM.
