7:03PM at City Hall by Mayor Donald L.Bailey,Jr.
Roll was taken and the following City Council members were present:Nick Gruber,
Marvin Berger,Wayne Johnson,Bill Peard and Mike Watts.
RESOLUTION:Approving City Council Raises Beginning January 1,2002 -Mayor
Bailey indicated that this should be presented as an Ordinance,not a Resolution.City
Staff said they would put back on the February 5,2001 agenda in an Ordinance format.
RESOLUTION:Approving Purchase Offer for Waukee City Hallfrom KC Holdings-
City Administrator Mark Arentsen indicated that the City does not have a Resolution
because the City was waiting for a survey regarding the property lines.The Mayor asked
when the US 2000 Census numbers would be released?Joshua indicated that it would be
released between March 1 -April 1,2001.Mark indicated this Resolution will be on the
next agenda.
RECEIVE/FILE:Reviewing 28£Agreement with Boone,Walnut and Van Meter
Townships Regarding Fire Protection -The City has been reviewing our current 28E
FirelEMS Agreements with Boone,Walnut and Van Meter Townships.Mayor Bailey
directed City Staff to meet with the township trustees and to discuss new 28E
Agreements for this budget year.Motion by Gruber,second by Watts to approve the 28E
Agreement.Motion by Gruber,second by Watts to receive/file this report.Ayes:
Gruber,Watts,Berger,Johnson and Peard.Motion carried 5-0.
BUDGET HEARINGIDISCUSSION:City Administrator Mark Arentsen handed
everyone at the meeting a summary of several budgetary line items.The Mayor asked if
we could reduce the tax rate by .27/$1,000 due to the state mandated rollback being
raised from .54 to .56 on residential property.After much discussion and consensus
reaching,the Budget Committee decided keeping the tax rate stable at $13.50 to help
fund the library project and other capital improvements that are needed.The Mayor
requested staff to figure out a way to have sidewalks installed along Ashworth Drive.
