HomeMy WebLinkAbout2002-06-19-Work Session MinutesWAUKEE CITY COUNCIL WORKSHOP MINUTES WASHINGTON D.C.FOLLOW-UP JUNE 19,2002 (1)Call to Order -The workshop meeting of the Waukee City Council was called to order by Mayor Leslie at 5:04 PM. (2)Roll Call-The following members were present:Mayor Mark D.Leslie,and Council members Nicholas Gruber,Donald Bailey,Jr.,Mike Watts,Bill Peard and Wayne Johnson.In addition Dierck Oosten was present. (3)Agenda Additions /Approval-Wayne Johnson moved to approve the agenda with an addition of an update of the Council Roundtable and,if time permits,discussion regarding the Fitzgerald Property.Mike Watts second.Ayes:All.Nays:None. (4)Discussion Council Roundtable Report:Wayne Johnson reported on the Council Roundtable,a morning discussion group of metro area representatives from city councils. His report included Interstate 235 construction timeline and redesigo,Washington,D.C. trip,Park land Dedication and park development,citizen vote for a levy as a source of funds for park development,overhaul of state taxes where sales tax is identified as revenue for cities. (5)Discussion the Washington,D.C.trip:Discussion included an overview of short and long term action steps for follow-up of the Washington trip.The City has been contacted by the office of Congressman Latham for further information regarding the interchange.Mark Arentsen indicated that we should be prepared for the Reauthorization ofthe Highway Act,which will take place next year.The City needs to complete the Justification Study for the MPO and have it approved by the Iowa DOT.Future discussion with WDM will take place regarding the Alice's Road interstate interchange. Other topics of discussion were:(I)possibility of hiring a lobbyist;(2)the development of additional lobbying resources other than hiring a lobbyist;(3)funding from the federal govermnent as well as from other areas;(4)public/private partnerships for the funding of infrastructure.Further objectives were identified,tasks were assigoed and a timeline was established. (6)Discussion Fitzgerald Property:Exchanging land for land is the philosophy and decision of the City Council. Don Bailey moved to adjourn. adjourned.
