MINUTES
September 26,2002 ]
(1)Call to Order -The j oint meeting of members of the Waukee City Council and
members of the Clive City Council was called to order by Mayor Leslie at 6:00 PM.
(2)Roll Call-Waukee representatives present were Mayor Mark Leslie,Councilmen
Mike Watts and Wayne Jolmson,City Administrator Mark Arentsen,Councilman Nick
Gruber arrived at 6:10 PM.Clive representatives present were Mayor Les Aashiem,
Councilmen John Edwards and Paul Layton,City Manager Demus Henderson,
Community Development Director Doug Olendike.
(3)Discussiou:On Severing 4 Acres from City of Waukee The group discussed the
Fitzgerald property first. After some discussion, there was consensus among those
present that it made sense for tbis property to be severed from Waukee and annexed to
Clive. There also was consensus that Waukee deserves some type of "compensation"or
land to be added back to Waukee.Dennis Henderson and Mark Arentsen will meet after
next week to come up with a recommendation for the two Councils to consider.
The group next discussed the Kuehl property directly north of the Sahu Acres
subdivision.Everyone agreed that it made sense for sewer service to be provided on a
gravity basis for tbis and other adjacent properties in both Clive and Waukee. This would
mean that the transmission line serving properties in this area would run through Clive
and possibly serve some Clive properties,The line would ultimately connect to other
transmission lines terminating at the Wastewater Reclamation Authority (WRA)in Des
Moines. The Clive officials present stated that they would support Waukee's
participation in the WRA.There will be some capital participation cost to Waukee in
order to join the WRA.Most ifnot all of these costs should be recoverable from the
properties which would be served by the line connected to the WRA.
]
Representatives of the two cormmmities agreed that there would likely be other projects
that the two communities could work together on as property near the community
boundaries develops.
Meeting Adjourned at 7:10 PM.
