SPECIAL MEETING
DECEMBER 21,2002 r I
(1)Call to Order -The special meeting of the Waukee City Council was called to order
by Mayor Leslie at 12:00 PM.
(2)Roll Call -The following members were present:Mayor Mark D.Leslie,and
Council members Nicholas Gruber,Donald Bailey,Jr.,Bill Peard and Wayne Johnson.
Councilman Mike Watts was absent.
(3)Receive/File -Mayor Leslie aunounced his resignation from the position of
Mayor effective January 31,2003.Mayor Leslie,a divisional vice president at
Younkers department stores,is accepting a position as vice president at Macy's
department store in New York.Younkers headquarters in Des Moines is being
consolidated with Milwaukee.Mayor Leslie encouraged the council to have a
special election for the mayoral position indicating he felt the citizens of Waukee
should be allowed to vote for their mayor.After Mayor Leslie spoke,councilmen
Bailey,Gruber,Johnson and Peard shared their thoughts with respect to Mayor
Leslie's year at the hehn of the City of Waukee and at his and his family's
leaving.Mark Arentsen echoed the sentiments of the council and spoke for city
staffwhen he stated that the Mayor had done an excellent job during the short
time he had been Mayor.Mayor Leslie asked for a motion to receive/file his
message.Don Bailey,Jr.moved;Wayne Johnson second.Roll call:Ayes:
Bailey,Johnson,Gruber,Peard.Nays:None.Motion carried 4 -O.
At this time Mayor Leslie asked for a motion to adjourn,Bill Peard moved.Nick Gruber
second,Ayes:All.Nays:None.Motion carried 4-0.
Meeting Adjourned at 12:15 PM.
