Council member Jeff Mertz present at 6:20PM. Examples of current lighting requirements were distributed and discussed. There was a discussion of using lower wattage with downcast lighting fixtures in commercial areas. It was suggested that safety issues would not be compromised with such lighting;rather consistent similar lighting fixtures would enhance visibility because of the uniformity of light levels. Council member Nick Gruber present at 6:40PM. As the discussion progressed, some individuals indicated that more not less lighting is needed in parts of the community such as older part of town,multi-family buildings, parking lots, school complex on University. In addition,a lighting representative stated that the number of lumens is more important to visibility than the number of watts.According to the lighting rep,the eye sees lumens and not watts. Ordinances of other communities were also discussed. This meeting was ended at 7:00 PM. C.Paardekooper,Deputy Clerk Attest: 1
