SPECIAL JOINT MEETING
WITH WAUKEE CITY COUNCIL
JANUARY 9,2007
A)Call to Order -The special joint meeting of the Planning &Zoning Commission and Waukee City
Council was called to order by Mayor Peard at 7:03 p.m.
B)Roll Call-The following City Council members were present:Mayor William F.Peard and Council
Members Don L.Bailey,JI.;Darlene Stanton;Mike Watts.Absent:C.Isaiah McGee;JeffV.Mertz.The
following Planning &Zoning Commissioners were present:Jerry Steele,Frank Hoifeldt,Chad Airhart,
Brian Mook,Joe Schmidt.Absent:Dan Dutcher,Chris Wilson.Council Member Mertz arrived at 8:29
p.m.
C)Agenda Approval.Motion by Commissioner Schmidt,seconded by Commissioner Steele,to approve
the agenda.Ayes:All.Nays:None.Motion carried 5 -O.
D)DISCUSSION:Regarding Zoning and Site Plan Ordinance requirements and provisions -City
Attorney Brick addressed the City Council and Planning &Zoning Commission to review development
considerations when reviewing plat and site plan submittals.MI.Brick also discussed certain legal
precedents,the role of the Board of Adjustment in zoning appeals,conditional zoning,the need for
documentation of decisions of the Commission and Council,and the justifiable reasons for denial of a
zoning application or site plan.The Council and Commission asked questions of Mr.Brick.
Council Member Mertz arrived at 8:29 p.m.
Adjournment.Motion by Commissioner Steele,seconded by Commissioner Schmidt,to adjourn the
Planning &Zoning Commission meeting.Ayes:All.Nays:None.Motion carried 5 -O.Motion by
Council Member Watts,seconded by Council Member Bailey,to adjourn the City Council meeting.
Ayes:All.Nays:None.Motion carried 4 -O.
