SPECIAL JOINT MEETING
WITH PLANNING &ZONING COMMISSION
JANUARY 8,2008
A)Call to Order -The special joint meeting of the Waukee City Council and Planning &Zoniog
Commission was called to order at 7 :02 p.m.In the absence of both mayor and mayor pro tem,Council
Member Bailey moved to approve Council Member Stanton as temporary presiding officer;seconded by
C0l111CilMember Harvey.Ayes:All.Nays:None.Motion carried 3 -O.
B)Roll Call by City Council-The following City Council members were present:Council Members
Don L.Bailey,Jr.;Casey L.Harvey;Darlene Stanton.Absent:Mayor William F.Peard;Council
Members C.Isaiah McGee,Mike Watts.
Council Member Watts arrived at 7:22 p.m.
C)Roll Call by Planning &Zoning Commission -The following Planning &Zoning Commissioners
were present:Chad Airhart,Dan Dutcher,Frank Hoifeldt,Briao Mook,Joe Schmidt,Chris Wilson.
Absent:Jerry Steele.
Also present:Director of Planning Brad Deets,Planner Ben Landhauser,Director ofPuhlic Works John
Gibson,Director of Community Development J ody T.Gunderson,Code Compliance Officer Dennis
Dowell,Deputy City Clerk Rebecca D.Schuett,City Engineer John Kursitis,City Administrator/Clerk
Kooistra arrived at 7:30 p.m.
D)Agenda Approval by City Council-Council Member Bailey moved to approve the agenda;
seconded by Council Member Harvey.Ayes:All.Nays:None.Motion carried 3 -O.
E)Agenda Approval by Planning &Zoning Commission -Commissioner Schmidt moved to approve
the agenda;seconded by Commissioner Airhart.Ayes:All.Nays:None.Motion carried 6 -O.
F)Presentation:Comprehensive Plan Update -Chris Brewster and Vanessa Spartan of Gould Evans
gave a PowerPoint presentation on the Comprehensive Plan update,including project overview and
planning prncess,Comprehensive Plan outline and structure,future direction,and plan implementation.
Council Member Watts arrived at 7:22 p.m.
The C0l111Ciland Planning &Zoning Commission discussed the potential lake location,referencing a
letter of objection to the location received on Jan.8,2008,from Andrew Bean,26762 31 o"S1.Council
Member Bailey moved to receive and file the correspondence;seconded by Council Member Harvey.
Ayes:All.Nays:None.Motion carried 4 -O.Other issues discussed at length included the proposed
timeline for implementation of certain aspects of the plan and the need for a committee to foster
implementation.
G)Comments
Adjournment by Planning &Zoning Commission -Commissioner Schmidt moved to adjoum;
seconded by Commissioner Wilson.Ayes:All.Nays:None.Motion carried 6 -O.
Adjournment by City Council-Council Member Bailey moved to adjourn;seconded by Council
Member Harvey.Ayes:All.Nays:None.Motion carried 4 -O.
