WORK SESSION MEETING
FEBRUARY 25,2008
A)Call to Order -The work session meeting of the Wankee City Council was called to order by Mayor
Pcard at 10:08 p.m.
B)Roll Call-The following City Conncil members were present:Mayor William F.Pcard;Council
Members Casey L.Harvey;C.Isaiah McGee;Darlene Stanton.Absent:Council Members Don L.Bailey,
J1'.;Mikc Watts.
Also present:City Administrator/Clerk Jeff Kooistra,Director of Community Development Jody T.
Gunderson,Director of Finance Linda Burkhart,Director of Public Works John Gibson,Director of
Planning Brad Deets.
C)Agenda Approval -Council Member Stanton moved to approve the agenda;seconded by Council
Member McGee.Roll call:Ayes:Stanton,McGee,Harvey.Nays:None.Absent:Bailey,Watts.Motion
carried 3 -0 -2.
D)Work Session:
1)Economic Development -City Administrator/Clerk Kooistra gave a brief overview of the
purpose and status of the Waukee Economic Development Corporation.
2)Hotel/Motel tax -Council Member Stanton suggested the Council review the City of Carlisle's
recently enacting ordinance regarding hotel/motel tax revenue,even though there are currently
no such industries in Waukee.City AdministratorlKooistra explained how such tax rates and
revenue uses are proposed in ballot language.
3)Washington,D.C.trip -Mayor Peard,City Administrator/Clerk Kooistra,Director of
Community Development Gunderson and certain representatives of the City of West Des
Moines will travel to Washington,D.C.in late April 2008.Mayor Peard and Council Members
Harvey,Bailey and Watts plan to participate in the Greater Des Moines Partnership's summer
trip to Washington,D.C.
E)Comments
Adjournment -Council Member Harvey moved to adjourn;seconded by Council Member McGee.
Ayes:All.Nays:None.Motion carried 3 -O.
