HomeMy WebLinkAbout2008-07-28-Work Session MinutesWAUKEE CITY COUNCIL MINUTES WORK SESSION MEETING JULY 28,2008 A)Call to Order -The work session meeting of the Waukee City Council was called to order by Mayor Peard at 7:01 p.m. B)Roll Call-The following members were present:Mayor William F.Peard;Council Members Donald L.Bailey,Jr.;Casey L.Harvey;Darlene Stanton;Mike Watts.Absent:Council Member C.Isaiah McGee. Council Member McGee arrived at 7:03 p.m. Also present:City Administrator/Clerk Jeff Kooistra,Director of Finance Linda Burkhart,Director of Public Works John Gibson,Director of PI amling Brad Deets,Deputy City Clerk Rebecca D.Schuett. C)Agenda Approval -Council Member Stanton moved to approve the agenda;seconded by Council Member Harvey.Roll call:Ayes:Stanton,Harvey,Bailey,Watts.Nays:None.Absent:McGee.Motion carried 4 -0 -1. D)Work Session: I)Procedure with various city projects -City Administrator/Clerk Kooistra asked the Council for direction related to a possible election for the Waukee Public Works Facility.He stated that the financial status of the Alice's Road Corridor project was uncertain at this time and that the Council may opt to wait to hold a special election for the Public Works Facility until there are more solid cost estimates for the Alice's Road Corridor. Council Member McGee arrived at 7:03 p.m. Mayor and Council voiced their support to proceed with an election at a later date after more complete and accurate financial information regarding the Alice's Road Corridor is determined. Council Member Bailey questioned the status of negotiations with private sector investors along the Alice's Road Corridor.City staff anticipate meeting with property owners in September once there are more solid cost estimates,with a possible agreement deadline in late October/early November.Council Member Bailey asked how best to inform the public of the will of the Council regarding a future election for the Public Works Facility.Mr.Kooistra suggested the City Attorney draft a motion regarding the matter for the Council to consider. E)Comments Adjournment -Council Member McGee moved to adjourn;seconded by Council Member Watts.Ayes: All.Nays:None.Motion carried 5 -O.
