SPECIAL MEETING
July 31,2012
A)Call to Order -The special meeting of the Waukee City Council was called to order by Mayor
Peard at 5:32 p.m.in the Waukee City Council Chambers.
B)Roll Call-The following members were present:Mayor William F.Peard;Council Members Shane
Blanchard,Dan Dutcher,Casey L.Harvey,Shelly Hughes,Mike Watts.Absent:None.
Also in attendance:Interim City Administrator Brad Deets,Director of Finance Linda Burkhart,
Deputy City Clerk Rebecca D.Schuett,City Attorney Steve Brick.
C)Agenda Approval -Council Member Harvey moved to approve the agenda;seconded by Council
Member Blanchard.Results of vote:Ayes:Harvey,Blanchard,Dutcher,Hughes,Watts.Nays:
None.Motion carried 5 -O.
D)Resolution:Consideration of approval of a resolution approving the use of a professional
consultant for the City Administrator/Clerk search -Council Member Dutcher moved to approve
the resolution;seconded by Council Member Harvey.Interim City Administrator Deets noted that
five consulting firm proposals had been received by City staff and that it is proposed that the City
Personnel Committee (consisting of Mayor Peard and Council Members Harvey and Watts)review
the proposals and select two firms from which the Council as a whole will award contract.Council
Member Harvey asked if all council members could review the five proposals;Mr.Deets replied in
the affirmative.Results of vote:Ayes:Dutcher,Harvey,Watts,Hughes,Blanchard.Nays:None.
Motion carried 5 -O.After the vote,the Personnel Committee agreed to meet on Monday,August
13 at 5:00 p.m.to review the proposals.
E)Closed Session:Pursuant to Code of Iowa §21.5(1)(c)to discuss strategy with Counsel in
matters that are presently in litigation or where litigation is imminent where its disclosure
would be likely to prejudice or disadvantage the position of the governmental body in that
litigation -Council Member Watts moved to close the regular session and enter closed session
pursuant to Iowa Code §21.5(1 )(c);seconded by Council Member Blanchard.Results of vote:Ayes:
Watts,Blanchard,Hughes,Dutcher,Harvey.Nays:None.Motion carried 5 -O.Council entered
closed session at 5:39 p.m.
CLOSED SESSION
Council entered regular session at 6:15 p.m.

Adjournment -Council Member Watts moved to adjourn;seconded by Council Member Harvey.Ayes:
All.Nays:None.Motion carried 5 -O.
Meeting Adjourned at 6:16 p.m.
