HomeMy WebLinkAbout2012-12-03-Work Session MinutesWAUKEE CITY COUNCIL MINUTES WORK SESSION MEETING December 3,2012 A)Call to Order -The work session meeting of the Waukee City Council was called to order by Mayor Peard at 7:21 p.m.at Waukee City Hall. S)Roll Call -The following members were present:Mayor William F.Peard;Council Members Shane Blanchard,Dan Dutcher,Casey L.Harvey,Shelly Hughes,Mike Watts.Absent:None. Also present:Interim City Administrator Brad Deets,Administrative Services Manager/City Clerk McKinlee Gibson,Director of Finance Linda Burkhart,Director of Public Works John Gibson,Deputy City Clerk Rebecca D.Schuett. C)Agenda Approval -Council Member Harvey moved to approve the agenda;seconded by Council Member Blanchard.Results of vote:Ayes:Blanchard,Dutcher,Harvey,Hughes,Watts.Nays: None.Motion carried 5 -O. 0)Work Session: 1)FY2014 budget development and goals -Based on a presumed $13.50 tax rate,Interim City Administrator Deets and Director of Finance Burkhart briefly reviewed estimated General Fund growth,anticipated wages and benefits,a Supply and Services budget increase,non-profit funding history,CIP review,bonding capacity and legal debt limits.Council Member Watts asked for reports based on a $1.00 tax rate increase or decrease.The Council agreed to meet for a 12/10 work session to discuss economic development. 2)Mobile communication policy-Interim City Administrator Deets briefly reviewed the proposed policy,including current use of mobile devices,the process for determining the need for cell phones,and provider rates.Council Member Watts expressed frustration with the lack of customer service that he has personally received from Verizon;Director of Finance Burkhart noted no customer service issues with the City's Verizon representative.Council Member Harvey voiced concerns with personal ownership of phones and their replacement and suggested having standard phones for employees.Director of Public Works Gibson noted the good reliability and coverage area with the City's current provider.Council Member Harvey suggested an annual report on which employees have data plans.Council Member Hughes proposed reviewing the City's mobile plan every few years for possible savings. E)Comments Adjournment -Council Member Harvey moved to adjourn;seconded by Council Member Dutcher.
