WORK SESSION INEETING
January 12,2015
A)Call to Order —The work session meeting of the Waukee City Council was called to order by Mayor
Pro Tem Peterson at 5;29 p.m.in the Waukee City Council Chambers.
B)Roll Call —The following members were present:Council Members Shane Blanchard,Casey L.
Harvey,Shelly Hughes,Rick Peterson.Absent:Mayor William F.Peard;Council Member Brian
Harrison.
Also in attendance:City Administrator Tim Moerman,Director of Finance Linda Burkhart,Director of
Development Services Brad Deets,Community and Economic Development Director Dan Dutcher,
Police Chief John Quinn,Director of Human Resources Patty Holden,Library Director Kristine
Larson,City Clerk Rebecca D.Schuett.
C)Agenda Approval —Council Member Blanchard moved to approve the agenda;seconded by
Council Member Harvey.Results of vote:Ayes:Blanchard,Harvey,Hughes,Peterson.Nays:
None.Absent:Harrison.Motion carried 4 —0 —1.
D)Work Session:
1)Waukee Leadership institute project update —Event co-chairs Kathryn Sandie and Mark
Malone thanked the City Council for their support of the project,noted the 06/06 event date and
name,and reviewed activities planned for the event.Ms.Sandie and Mr.Malone stated the
need for a future organization and board to continue administering and running the event.
Council Member Blanchard asked about the date selection and its proximity to the BACooN
Ride and July 4'"festivities;Ms.Sandie and Mr.Malone replied that the event was intended to
kick off summer and that they hoped the new date would tie in better with the school calendar.
Parks and Recreation Director Jermier added that the demographic for this event would be
different than that for the BACooN Ride.Council Member Harvey asked which organization
would be responsible for event liability insurance;Mr.Jermier replied that it would be under the
City's insurance policy.The City Council thanked the Waukee Leadership Institute for taking on
the project.
2)FY2016 Budget —City Administrator Moerman gave a brief overview of the proposed budget.
The City Council and department directors reviewed those proposed budget items related to
Human Resources,Police,Library,Sugar Creek Municipal Golf Course,Parks and Recreation,
Community Center,Development Services and Building Inspections,and Economic
Development.
E)Comments —Director of Finance Burkhart reviewed a possible bond refunding opportunity.
Adjournment —Council Member Harvey moved to adjourn;seconded by Council Member Blanchard.
Ayes:AII.Nays:None.Motion carried 4 —0.
