APPROVING FY2021 BUDGET DIRECTIVES AND CALENDAR
IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE, IOWA
WHEREAS, the City of Waukee, Iowa is a duly organized municipality within Dallas County;
AND,
WHEREAS, to provide guidance for the development of the City of Waukee FY2021 budget
and present a fiscally responsible budget to the City Council, the following budget directives are
approved:
1) Work to reduce the City's current Tax Levy by $0.10 to $13.30 per $1,000.00
2) Fiscally responsible Debt Service planning to meet Capital Improvement Plan needs
3) Promote growth of commercial taxable valuation
4) Leverage City resources to expand entertainment and regional attractions
5) Minimize the levels of enterprise funds' future rate increases and fee structures
6) Align staffing & facilities plan with City priorities to meet needs of growing community
7) Develop adequate maintenance schedules for capital facilities and infrastructure
8) Focus resources on neighborhood and existing parks revitalization efforts
9) Provide transparency in budget documents and public meetings
10) Find optimal level to determine the timing of equipment purchase & replacement; AND,
WHEREAS, the Waukee City Council also approves the following FY2021 Budget calendar:
1) Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) work session: December 9, 2019
2) Budget work session (all departments): January 27, 2020
3) Final budget work session (if needed): February 3, 2020
4) Public Hearing and consideration of approval of proposal for FY2021 Budget to exceed
102%: March 2, 2020
5) Public Hearing and consideration of approval of proposed FY2021 Budget: March 16,
2020
6) Public Hearing and consideration of approval of Capital Improvement Plan (CIP): March
16, 2020
7) State of Iowa filing deadline: March 31, 2020
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City of Waukee City Council in session this
4 h day of November, 2019, that it hereby approves the FY2021 b directives and calendar.
