Director Dept/Div: Information Technology (IT) Direct Reports: None Pay Grade: N18 FLSA Status: Non-Exempt JOB PURPOSE: The Information Technology Technician provides technical support and assists City staff in the use of technology. This position will ensure continuity of business through prompt resolutions of incidents and service requests, and will proactively promote effective and efficient use of technology throughout the organization. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Order of Essential Functions does not indicate importance of functions.) 1. Procure and install equipment, including mobile devices, software and applications. 2. Provide technical support for the computing environment with a focus on Public Safety and Library technologies. 3. Coordinate with external support vendors to ensure quick resolution of incidents. 4. Coordinate with stakeholders and handle IT related onboarding and off-boarding processes. 5. Maintain inventory records and ensure proper disposal of IT assets. 6. Maintain asset management, helpdesk, MDM, and endpoint security systems. 7. Communicate effectively with technical and nontechnical colleagues at all levels in the organization. 8. Create, maintain, and publish relevant support and procedure documentation. 9. Perform other duties or assume other responsibilities as apparent or assigned. SUCCESS FACTORS: 1. Attentive to the City’s standards for customer service, accuracy, quality, efficiency and all City policies and procedures ensuring that all work performed meets those standards. QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Associate’s Degree or Technical Certification in computer science or a related field required. 2. Minimum of one (1) year related work experience. 3. NCIC Certification within six (6) months of employment. 4. Able to install and troubleshoot computing and electronic equipment. 5. Able to install, troubleshoot, and train end users on the use of software and applications. 6. Able to communicate technical information, both verbally and written, to staff in a non-technical manner. 7. Must possess a valid Iowa Driver license and meet the requirements of the City’s motor vehicle policy. 8. Access to transportation with insurance at required state levels to conduct business throughout the assigned area. Able to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of directors, staff, developers, contractors, colleagues, elected officials and the general public. 2. Able to lift, carry, push and pull up to 50 pounds occasionally. 3. Able to maneuver under furniture and in tight spaces to complete installs and to troubleshoot. 4. Able to function productively in a standard office environment accessing cabinets, shelving, work areas and office equipment. 5. Able to sit for long periods of time and to maintain focus on projects on a computer screen. 6. Must be able to effectively communicate orally (in person and over the telephone) and in writing (using electronic devices and handwritten) in English with other employees, businesses and community members. WORKING CONDITIONS: 1. Climate controlled office with hazards typical to that environment. 2. Occasional outdoor work may be required. 3. Position requires travel within and outside of the City which imposes common travel hazards. 4. Standard work hours will be Monday-Friday 7:00AM – 3:30PM with additional hours including days, evenings, overnights, and weekends as required. 5. To successfully fulfill the essential functions of this position, employee must maintain standard work hours within Waukee IT Department. 6. There is no residency requirement for this position.
