JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Digital Content Specialist Reports to: Marketing & Communications. Director
Dept/Div: Marketing & Communications Direct Reports: None
Grade: N24 FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
JOB PURPOSE: The Digital Content Specialist will identify stories and information, creatively execute and
disseminate content across digital channels with a focus on social media and assist in
informing and engaging residents, business owners and other stakeholders about our
growing and evolving community.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Creates and schedules content for City social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Nextdoor).
2. Monitors comments and analytics for City social media accounts, escalating when needed.
3. Takes photographs and videos at City events as well as parks, golf course and around Waukee.
4. Edits photos and videos for use on City website and social media channels.
5. Designs web graphics using Canva and/or Adobe Creative Suites applications.
6. Reshapes content from publications, such as the City’s annual report, for digital platforms.
7. Collaborates with the Director to create and manage social media and digital ads, as needed.
8. Performs day-to-day maintenance of content on the City’s website within the CivicPlus Engage platform.
9. Assists in planning, writing and sending print and electronic newsletters.
10. Performs other duties or assumes other responsibilities as apparent or assigned.

7. Able to react to a work environment that will change day-to-day, requiring quick departure and
reorganization of one’s schedule.

9. Show initiative to seek other work upon completion of a task.
10. Attentive to the City’s and the Department’s standards for customer service, accuracy, quality, efficiency
and all City and Department policies and procedures ensuring that all work performed meets those
standards.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Associate’s Degree in Journalism, Graphic Design, Marketing, Social Media, Communications or a related
field. Bachelor’s preferred.
2. One (1) year of experience in a related field; preference will be given to candidates with marketing,
journalism, social media and/or design experience.
3. Six (6) months of experience creating and posting content regularly to major social media platforms for an
organization or business.
4. Proficient in shooting and editing videos for social media or website content.
5. Must possess and be able to maintain a valid Driver’s License.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Ability to function productively in a standard office environment accessing cabinets, shelving work areas
and office equipment.
2. Ability to sit for long period of time and to maintain focus on project such as computer screen or detailed
paperwork.
3. Able and willing to carry camera gear while walking varying distances.
4. Able to lift, carry, push and pull up to 20 pounds occasionally.
5. Able to effectively communicate orally (in person and over the telephone) and in writing (using electronic
devices and handwritten) with other employees and City contacts in English.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
1. Climate-controlled office with hazards typical of that environment, minimal outdoor work is required.
2. Position requires travel within and outside of the City which imposes common travel hazards.
3. Must be able to occasionally work evenings and weekends for City meetings, presentations and events.
4. There is no residency requirement for this position.
