HomeMy WebLinkAboutPD - School Resource Officer TASK LIST ONLY School Resource Officer Page 1 Chief Quinn Approval 10/05/2015 Revised 10-2021 City of Waukee TASK LIST Job Title: School Resource Officer Reports to: Sergeant Dept/Div: Police Direct Reports: None Pay Grade: P14 FLSA Status: Non-Exempt JOB PURPOSE: A Waukee Police-School Resource Officer will be placed within the educational environment on multiple levels and venues providing guidance, counseling and support where necessary to associate with and assist students, parents and school staff in legal and police matters. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Order of Essential Functions does not indicate importance of functions.) 1. Establishes a positive working relationship between the community, schools and police department while building trust and cooperation. 2. As a visible, active law enforcement figure addresses any law-related issues on school grounds. 3. Serves as a classroom resource for instruction in the areas such as: law related education, violence diffusion, safety programs, alcohol and drug prevention, crime prevention and other areas as needed. 4. Works as a member of the faculty and administrative team to solve problems in the school community. 5. Becomes available to teachers, parents, and students for conferences on an individual basis. 6. Counsels in areas which may affect the educational environment and may be of a law-related nature. 7. Complies with and has excellent knowledge of all departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). 8. Performs all Essential Functions of a Waukee Police Officer when needed. 9. Performs other duties or assumes other responsibilities as apparent or assigned. SUCCESS FACTORS: 1. Contribute to overall City effectiveness by providing critical staff support to task forces and by participating, as necessary, in assisting all other teams. 9. Safeguard confidential information and uses it or discloses it only as expressly authorized or specifically required in the course of performing specific job duties. 10. Attentive to the City’s and Department’s standards for customer service, accuracy, quality, efficiency and all City and Department policies and procedure ensuring that all work performed meet those standards while exhibiting consistent treatment of all staff. QUALIFICATIONS: 1. High School graduate. AA/BA/BS preferred. 2. Four years of full-time law enforcement experience. 3. Bi-lingual and bi-cultural understanding preferred. 4. Must meet all minimum standards for Iowa Law Enforcement Officers per ILEA. 5. Complies with and has excellent knowledge of all departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). 6. Excellent knowledge of current municipal, state, and federal codes, laws and ordinances interpreting and enforcing the same. Knowledge of the causes and prevention of delinquency. 7. Must be able to obtain an Iowa Professional Permit to carry weapons. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 1. Must meet all minimum standards for Iowa Law Enforcement Officers per ILEA. 2. Ability to perform all essential functions of the position while wearing required protective equipment. 3. Able to lift, pull, push up to 100 pounds unassisted when necessary. 4. Be responsive to verbal and visible signs of distress and alarms. 5. Able to remember names, faces and details of incidents. 6. Able to effectively communicate orally (in person and over the telephone and in writing using electronic devices and handwritten) in English with other employees, vendors and the community. WORKING CONDITIONS: 1. Position requires outdoor work where heat, cold, precipitation, and the results of weather and nature may be encountered. 2. Position requires travel within and outside of the City which imposes common travel hazards. 3. Will be exposed to emergencies, stressful situations, and significant work place pressure. 4. Standard work hours must be flexible, will include days, evenings, over nights and weekends, may be greater than 40 hours per week, and may be called to report to duty at any time. 5. To successfully fulfill the essential functions of this position, employee must maintain standard work hours within Waukee Public Safety building. 6.
