JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Golf Course Superintendent Reports to: P&R Facilities Manager
Dept/Div: Parks & Recreation/Golf Direct Reports: Golf Course Maintenance
Grade: N29 Worker
FLSA Status: Exempt - Administrator
JOB PURPOSE: The Golf Course Superintendent performs supervisory and maintenance work necessary
for the grounds keeping of the municipal golf course, parks, and other municipally
operated areas.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Leads and directs the Sugar Creek Golf Course grounds staff through selection, orientation, training,
performance management and discipline according to standard operating procedures, City policy and
department rules and regulations.
Prepares annual budget for golf grounds maintenance and capital improvement of course properties,
taking into account future approved plans for the golf course.
Oversees new construction, renovations, and reconstruction of golf course properties, whether
performed by City staff or outside contractors.
Plans all maintenance and project work for the golf course, applying his/her agronomic and
administrative expertise to achieve course maintenance standards and future goals.
Oversees the scheduling and routing of personnel and equipment to accomplish the course
maintenance goals.
Inspects course frequently to ensure maintenance standards are being achieved.
Acquires necessary course equipment and supplies to maintain grounds.
Keeps accurate and complete records regarding payroll, weather data, maintenance programs,
equipment inventory and pesticide applications.
Maintains direct communication with Clubhouse Manager and clubhouse staff to ensure the effective
operation of golf course activities.
Performs other duties or assumes other responsibilities as apparent or assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate's Degree (AA) or technical certification preferred.
Two years’ experience in a related position.
Experience leading and developing staff and/or volunteers.
Must obtain pesticide application certification within 2 months of hire.
Familiarity with the rules of golf and golf course etiquette.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Able to maneuver along walkways, trails and undeveloped areas up to two miles in length.
Able to climb in and out of golf carts and other modes of transportation.
Able to lift, carry, push and pull up to 75 pounds occasionally.
Must be able to effectively communicate orally (in person and over the telephone) and in writing (using
electronic devices and handwritten) in English with other employees, businesses and community
members.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed inside and outside. Exposure to cold, heat and elements of weather and nature may
be encountered.
Standard work hours must be flexible and include evenings and weekends and will be greater than 40
hours per week for a large percentage of the year.
To successfully fulfill the essential functions of this position, employee must maintain standard work
hours within Waukee Parks & Recreation Department.
The employee in this position is required to reside within a 30 minute radius of the City limits due to the
need to respond to emergency calls in a timely manner to protect the health, safety and welfare of the
citizens of Waukee.
