JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Equipment Services Technician Reports to: Asst. PW Director-Operations
Dept/Div: Public Works/Equipment Services Direct Reports: None
Pay Grade: N25 FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
JOB PURPOSE: The Equipment Services Technician supports all other City Departments/Divisions by ensuring that
equipment and vehicles are maintained to assist in effective City operations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Performs diagnostics, major and minor mechanical repairs, service and maintenance on various City
owned vehicles & equipment in the shop and in the field.
2. Maintains fleet equipment files and manuals, repair records and work orders including hours worked for
interdepartmental budgeting.
3. Designs and fabricates projects for City departments utilizing welding equipment as needed.
4. Schedules work flow within shop and through the utilization of outside resources.
5. Prepares cost estimates for contracted services, purchases and planned projects and proposals for
purchase of needed shop tools and equipment.
6. Orders and inventories needed parts/supplies for shop.
7. Creates an ongoing preventative maintenance list laying out an annual plan on projects to complete.
8. Manages safety information and equipment in all vehicles providing monthly reporting and updating data
base.
9. Provides maintenance services for Public Works building and grounds including snow removal.
10. Performs other duties or assumes other responsibilities as apparent or assigned including aiding in snow
removal.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. A minimum high school diploma. Associate's degree or technical training preferred.
2. A minimum of three years' related experience.
3. Skilled in trouble shooting and working knowledge of various systems including electrical and hydraulic.
4. Certified or ability to become certified in CPR/First Aid
5. Must possess a valid Class B Iowa Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with air brake endorsements or ability to
obtain within 30 days of hire and meet the requirements of the City's motor vehicle policy.
6. Be able to retain and perform written and spoken instructions.
7. Be able to read and interpret technical information from meters, gauges and charts and take corrective action when
necessary.

8. Confident in the use of computers and tablets and able to be trained in software required to complete the
functions of the position.
9. Be able to effectively communicate orally (in person and over the telephone) and in writing using
electronic devices and handwritten) in English with other employees and the community.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Be able to walk and stand for long periods of time on different surfaces including walkways, trails,
stairs and undeveloped areas.
2. Be able to regularly lift, carry, push and pull up to 50 pounds and frequently lift and/or move more than
100 pounds.
3. Be capable of repeated actions.
4. Be able to sit for long periods of time and to maintain focus on project such as computer screen or
detailed paperwork.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
1. Position requires outdoor work where heat, cold, precipitation, and the results of weather and nature
may be encountered.
2. May be exposed daily to odors, dusts and gasses that may be uncomfortable or hazardous if proper
procedures are not followed.
3. During different job duties the noise inside or outside can become very loud.
4. May be exposed to electrical, chemical and/or other hazards and confined spaces that are not to be
entered or maintained by those who are not certified in the particular area.
5. Position requires travel within and outside of the City which imposes common travel hazards.
6. Standard work hours are 7:00 — 3:30 pm with occasional hours including Saturdays and evenings
as required.
7. Willing to work long hours if necessary to meet the expectations of the job description.
8. Subject to on-call duties.
9. To successfully fulfill the essential functions of this position, employee must maintain standard work hours
within Waukee Public Works Building.
10. The employee in this position is required to reside within a 30 minute radius of the City limits due to
the need to respond to emergency calls in a timely manner to protect the health, safety and welfare of
the citizens of Waukee.
