WORK SESSION MEETING
March 18,2019
A.Call to Order —The work session meeting of the Waukee City Council was called to order by Mayor
Pro Tem Bottenberg at 6:46 p.m.at Waukee City Hall,230 W.Hickman Rd.
B.Roll Call —The following members were present:Council Members Anna Bergman (via telephone),R.
Charles Bottenberg,Courtney Clarke,Shelly Hughes,Larry R.Lyon.Absent:Mayor William F.Peard.
Also in attendance:City Administrator Tim Moerman,Finance Director Linda Burkhart,Public Works
Director/City Engineer Rudy Koester,Development Services Director Brad Deets,Community and
Economic Development Director Dan Dutcher,Marketing and Communications Director Summer
Evans,Parks and Recreation Director Matt Jermier,Police Chief John Quinn,City Clerk Rebecca D.
Schuett.
C.Agenda Approval —Council Member Lyon moved to approve the agenda;seconded by Council
Member Clarke.Results of vote:Ayes:Bergman,Bottenberg,Clarke,Hughes,Lyon.Nays:None.
Motion carried 5 —0.
D.Work Session:
1)Transportation services —Brooke Ramsey with HIRTA reviewed recent changes with the
organization's transportation services and planned improvements to the ride scheduling system.
2)Massage therapy business licensing —Police Chief Quinn reviewed the proposed ordinance.
3)Waukee Municipal Code recodification —Development Services Director Deets highlighted some
proposed revisions to the zoning code,including short-term rentals,private street development
standards,residential elevations standards and mini-storage elevation standards.There was much
discussion on whether to address short-term rentals in the ordinance.The council agreed to
discuss the matter further at the April work session meeting.
4)City Hall Renovation Project update —Development Services Director Deets reviewed project
staging and the construction schedule.
5)Procedure for cancellation of council meetings —City Administrator Moerman asked that the
discussion be postponed due to the mayor's absence.
E.Comments
Council Member Lyon moved to adjourn;seconded by Council Member Hughes.Ayes:All.Nays:None.
Motion carried 5 —0.
