RESOLUTION 07-foP>
APPROVING A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF CONSIDERATION OF
ALTERNATIVES TO INCREASE REVENUE FOR THE ROAD USE TAX FUND
IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE,IOWA
WHEREAS,the Transportation Connnittee of the Iowa Senate is seeking input concerning
transportation needs throughout the State ofIowa;AND,
WHEREAS,the Road Use Tax Fund ("RUTF")is an important source of support for
construction and maintenance projects at the city,county and state levels;AND,
WHEREAS,an integral pari of RUTF is the fuel tax,which has not increased since 1989 while
construction costs have more than doubled since 1989;AND,
WHEREAS,the Iowa Good Roads Association,the Iowa County Supervisor's Association,the
Iowa County Engineer's Association and a consortium of other public and private organizations
and individuals have promoted the Transportation Investment Moves the Economy in the 21"
Century ("TIME-21")to underscore the steady deterioration of the construction dollar;AND,
WHEREAS,TIME-21 supports the request of the Iowa Department of Transportation for an
additional $200 Million to be added to the RUTF,which funds would be committed to roadway
infrastructure and would be generated by increasing transportation-related fees.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
WAUKEE,IOWA:
That the City Council of the City of Waukee recognizes the vital
role of that our transportation system plays for the State of Iowa,
and encourages the Iowa legislature to consider funding
alternatives to increase revenue to the RUTF.
Passed by the City Council of the City of Waukee,Iowa,and approved the 2nd day of April 2007.
