RESOLUTION 06-246
A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE DALLAS COUNTY AMENDMENT TO THE DES
MOINES AREA METROPOLITAN PLANNING ORGANIZATION'S REGIONAL
PLANNING COMMITTEE'S REGIONAL CORRIDOR RECOMMENDATION TO THE
DES MOINES AREA METROPOLITAN PLANNING ORGANIZATION
IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE,IOWA
WHEREAS,Waukee is a full member of the Des Moines Area Metropolitan Planning
Organization;AND,
WHEREAS,the City recognizes the need to offer an enhanced transportation network to the
Western Des Moines Metropolitan Area to complement the investment that has already occurred
within the Eastern Des Moines Metropolitan Area;AND,
WHEREAS,the City of Waukee is committed to long range planning and supports the Full
Build Out approach to the Des Moines Metropolitan Area's transportation network;AND,
WHEREAS,the population and employment growth of the Western Des Moines Metropolitan
Area has been substantial and continues to outpace projections;AND,
WHEREAS,the Waukee City Council adopted the Major Streets Plan as an amendment to the
City's comprehensive plan on October 10,2004,which identifies the Western Bypass as a future
highway;AND,
WHEREAS,Waukee desires to work jointly with Dallas County and its neighboring
communities to preserve the right-of-way necessary for the future development of the Western
By-pass when transportation demands warrant the corridors development;AND,
WHEREAS,Waukee believes there is a need to construct a continuous loop around the Des
Moines Metropolitan Area to take traffic loading off of existing roadways;AND,
WHEREAS,'The Western Bypass is an important link to the future development of the westem
Des Moines Metropolitan Area;AND,
WHEREAS,The City of Waukee supports the Dallas County Board of Supervisor's resolution
requesting an amendment to the Des Moines Area Metropolitan Planning Organization's
Regional Planning Committee's Regional Corridors recommendation which includes the Western
Bypass;
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE WAUKEE CITY COUNCIL,that the
City of Waukee supports the Dallas County request for an amendment to the proposed Des
Moines Metropolitan Planning Organizations Regional Planning Committee's Regional Corridor
Recommendation to include corridors M,F,E,and D as per the attached exhibit.
Passed by the City Council of the City of Waukee,Iowa,and approved the l l'"day of December
2006.
