RESOLUTION 07-271
APPROVAL OF FUNDING FOR WAUKEE FIRE DEPARTMENTIEMS
IN-HOUSE STAFFING AND EQUIPMENT
IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE,IOWA
WHEREAS,the City of Waukee,Dallas County,State of Iowa,is a duly organized Municipal
Organization;AND,
WHEREAS,historical and projected increases in City population and coverage area for the
Waukee Fire Department/EMS have made it advisable to staff the department for more thorough
coverage;AND,
WHEREAS,Waukee Fire Department/EMS and City staff propose a program for in-house
staffing at an initial cost of $1 00,000 for the remainder of Fiscal Year 2008,which shall include
wages,furniture and equipment;AND,
WHEREAS,it is anticipated that the proposed program for in-house staffing will result in the
following improvements in service and response:
•reducing the average response time by four (4)minutes;
•ensuring a minimum number of firefighters per call for one fire engine,unless out on an
EMS call;
•allowing firefighters/EMTs to schedule time at the Waukee Fire Department,making
service more convenient for busy lives;and
•allowing firefighters/EMTs from outside the Waukee city limits to become volunteer
members of the department;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City of Waukee City Council in session this
17th day of December 2007 that it hereby approves the funding for the Waukee Fire
DeparhnentlEMS in-house staffing and equipment.
