RESOLUTION 07-133
EXPRESSING THE OPPOSITION OF THE WAUKEE CITY COUNCIL TO THE
SELECTION OF EITHER SITE "B"OR SITE "G"FOR THE PROPOSED WEST METRO
REGIONAL AIRPORT
IN THE NAME AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE,IOWA
WHEREAS,the City of Waukee,Iowa is a duly organized municipality within Dallas County;AND,
WHEREAS,on January 25,2006,the Waukee City Council by Resolution #06-17 withdrew and
terminated its association with the proposed West Metro Regional Airport in all respects,including and
not limited to the termination of the 28E agreement entered into by the City of Waukee on March 4,
2002 (Resolution #02-28);AND,
WHEREAS,at a special meeting of the Waukee City Council on July 31,2006,the Council expressed
concern over the possible location of the proposed West Metro Regional Airport on Site "B,"which
the City has earmarked for a community recreational/sports complex,and was told by representatives
of the West Metro Regional Airport Authority that Site "B"would no longer being considered;AND,
WHEREAS,at a public meeting of the West Metro Regional Airport Authority on March 6,2007,
McClure Engineering Company recommended to the Authority the selection of Site "G"as the
preferred site for the proposed West Metro Regional Airport;AND,
WHEREAS,at a special meeting ofthe Waukee City Council on March 12,2007,Mr.and Mrs.Tom
Barrett addressed the Council to request that the Council officially oppose Site "G,"a portion of which
would be located on his farmland;AND,
WHEREAS,at the direction of the Waukee City Council,the City Administrator/Clerk submitted a
letter dated March 13,2007 to the Metro West Regional Airport Authority and the Mayor and City
Council of Adel,supporting the Barrett's position regarding Site "G"and expressing other concerns
with the proposed site;AND,
WHEREAS,Mr.Barrett has submitted a letter dated July 2,2007,requesting a formal resolution be
adopted by the City Council opposing the selection of Site "G"for the proposed West Metro Regional
Airport,and suggesting the City Council also formally oppose the selection of Site "B";
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City of Waukee City Council that the City of
Waukee hereby expresses its opposition to the selection of either Site "B"or Site "G,"a map of which
is attached hereto and made part of this resolution,for the proposed West Metro Regional Airport,and
hereby directs the City Administrator/Clerk to transmit a copy of this Resolution to the West Metro
Regional Airport Authority and the City of Adel.
Passed by the City Council of the City of Waukee,Iowa,and approved the 9th day of July 2007.
