RESOLUTION 07-153
APPROVAL OF THE RESOURCE ENHANCEMENT AND PROTECTION (REAP)
GRANT APPLICATION FOR THE RACCOON RIVER VALLEY TRAIL,WAUKEE
EXTENSION
INTHENAMEANDBYTHEAUTHORITYOFTHECITYOFWAUKEE,IOWA
WHEREAS,the City of Waukee,Dallas County,State oflowa,is a duly organized
Municipal Organization;AND,
WHEREAS,the provision of open spaces,parks and trails is an essential function of city
government;AND,
WHEREAS,the Union Pacific Railroad corridor from Waukee to Perry is currently in the
process of abandonment,including 2.35 miles of vacated rail bed with Waukee's city limits;
AND,
WHEREAS,in 2004,the City of Waukee applied for and received a Resource Enhancement
and Protection (REAP)grant in the amount of $100,000 for the acquisition and development
of the rail corridor within Waukee's city limits;AND,}
WHEREAS,Waukee City staff recommend applying for additional REAP grant funding in
order to focus on the development of the trail.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City of Waukee City Council in session
this 6th day of August 2007 that it hereby supports the Resource Enhancement and Protection
(REAP)grant application for the Raccoon River Valley Trail,Waukee Extension.
