RESOLUTION 07-175
APPROVAL OF A RESOLUTION OF SUPPORT OF THE 2007 SAFER ACT GRANT
APPLICATION,HIRING OF FIREFIGHTERS ACTIVITY,BY THE
WAUKEE FIRE DEPARTMENT
IN THE NAME AND BY THE A UTHORITY OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE,IOWA
WHEREAS,the City of Waukee,Dallas County,State ofIowa,is a duly organized Municipal
Organization;AND,
WHEREAS,due to unprecedented and continued residential and commercial growth within the
City of Waukee,the Waukee Fire Department has identified a need for three additional full-time
firefighters;AND,
WHEREAS,the U.S.Department of Homeland Security has made grant funds available through
the 2007 SAFER Act Grant to those applicants that demonstrate a need for federal assistance in
the ability to hire and maintain firefighters;AND,
WHEREAS,the 2007 SAFER Act Grant is a five-year grant requiring applicants to meet match
requirements and implement long-term plans to retain new firefighter positions;AND,
WHEREAS,the Waukee Fire Department wishes to apply for a 2007 SAFER Act Grant,Hiring
Firefighters Activity,in order to help finance the hire of three full-time firefighters;AND,
WHEREAS,the Waukee City Council agrees that a need exists in the City for additional full-
time firefighting staff;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City of Waukee City Council in session this
27th day of August 2007 that it hereby supports the 2007 SAFER Act Grant application,Hiring
Firefighters Activity,by the Waukee Fire Department;
BE IT ALSO RESOLVED by the City of Waukee City Council that it hereby agrees to match
financing requirements for the five-year performance period of the grant,including the
continuation and retention of the new firefighter positions.
