HomeMy WebLinkAbout1997-07-07-Resolutions 97-25_Railroad Passenger Service - SupportRESOLUTION NO.97-25 A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE STUDY AND IMPLEMENTATION OF RAIL SERVICE FROM CillCAGO,WYANET,QUAD CITIES,IOWA CITY, DES MOINES,AND OMAHA WHEREAS,a nine-state Midwest rail initiative including Iowa and Illinois Departments of Transportation is studying passenger rail service routes which would utilize Chicago as a hub; and WHEREAS,the rail service route serving Chicago,Wyanet,Quad Cities,Iowa City,Des Moines,and Omaha as the termini;and WHEREAS,the rail service route service Chicago,Wyanet,Quad Cities,Iowa,City,Des Moines,and Omaha would link the major medical centers at the University ofIowa in Iowa City and the University of Chicago;and WHEREAS,the rail service route serving the Chicago,Wyanet,Quad Cities,Iowa City,Des Moines,and Omaha would link the major institutions of higher learning including University of Nebraska at Omaha,Drake University,Grandview College,Grinnell College,University of Iowa,Saint Ambrose University,Augustana College,Marycrest College,Palmer College of Chiropractic,University of Chicago,University of Illinois at Chicago Circle,Loyola University and Northwestern University;and WHEREAS,the basic passenger rail service may be upgraded in the future to high speeds and for viability must serve the highest population possible. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Waukee,Iowa, that the Waukee City Council does hereby support the study and implementation of passenger rail services from Chicago,Wyanet,Quad Cities,Iowa City,Des Moines,and Omaha.
