NAMING OF GRANT STREET
WHEREAS,the Major-General Lewis A.Grant founded the town of Wankee,Iowa in
1869;and
WHEREAS,the Honorable Donald L.Bailey,Jr.,and the City Council of the City of
Wankee wonld like to honor the memory and contribntions made by Major-General
Lewis A.Grant to the City ofWankee;and
WHEREAS,Major-General Lewis A.Grant wonld be appropriately honored by the
naming of the street and it wonld provide this new area of development with a solid link
to Waukee's past;and
WHEREAS,Major-General Lewis A.Grant served onr city,state and nation with
distinction as the fonnder of the City of Wankee;as a distingnished officer of the U.S.
Army and decorated veteran of the Civil War;and as Assistant Secretary of War under
President Harrison from AprilS,1890 to December 15,1893.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED,that westem most street running throngh
Sonthfork Woods,Belfry Estates,Brentwood developments be named Grant Street after
the fonnder of Wankee Maj or-General Lewis A.Grant,and that the City Clerk be
directed to file this Resolntion with the Dallas County Recorder's,Assessor's,and
Anditor's Office in accordance with Chapter 354.26 of the Code ofIowa.
SUCH NAMING SHALL TAKE EFFECT UPON THE FILING OF THE FINAL
PLAT OF AND FOR THE FIRST OF EACH SUCCESSIVE DEVELOPMENT
INCLUDING SOUTHFORK WOODS,BRENTWOOD,AND BELFRY ESTATES
INCLUDING IN PART SAID SECTION OF GRANT STREET
PASSED THIS 17th DAY OF MAY,1999
