RESOLUTION APPROVING THE POLICY FOR
EXPENDITURE OF FUNDS FOR EMPLOYEE AND
VOLUNTEER RECOGNITION AND SUPPORT.
WHEREAS,THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WAUKEE,IOWA believes it is in the
best interest of its citizens to adopt a formal policy for the expenditure of public funds used to
recognize and support city employees and volunteers,to ensure that such expenditures serve a
public purpose;and
WHEREAS,the City Council has been presented with the Policy for the Expenditure of Public
Funds for Employee and Volunteer Recognition and Support which is attached hereto and by this
reference is incorporated herein;and
WHEREAS,the Waukee City Council believes that it is important for employee morale to support
and recognize them for a job well done;and
WHEREAS,the Waukee City Council also believes that the hard work of volunteers and persons
who have served as elected officials deserves recognition,and that such recongnition is a small
reward for work that was done to better the community;
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
W AUKEE,IOWA,
That the City Council hereby approves and adopts the Policy for the Expenditure of Public Funds
for Employee and Volunteer Recognition

POLICY FOR THE EXPENDITURE OF PUBLIC
FUNDS FOR EMPLOYEE AND VOLUNTEER
RECOGNITION AND SUPPORT
The following are policy guidelines for the expenditure of City funds for employee and volunteer
recognition and support.
1.The City may purchase a plaque or award to a former Mayor or Council person or retiring
employee in recognition for their years of service at a limit not to exceed $35.00.
2.The City may purchase a plaque to a Waukee Citizen in recognition as their selection as the Citizen
of the Year at a limit not to exceed $35.00.
3.The City may purchase a plaque to a Waukee Citizen in recognition for outstanding service as a
volunteer at a limit not to exceed $35.00.
4.The City may purchase food and beverages for its employees during catastrophes such as:major
winter storms,major water main breaks,and other events where the workload and the urgency of
the situation warrants such support and recognition.
5.The City may purchase food and beverages for volunteers during large community wide projects
such as park clean-up day,installing major park equipment,etc.
6.The City may purchase,once a year,either a ham or turkey for its employees as recognition for
their dedicated service throughout the year at a dollar limit not to exceed $20.00.
7.The City may contribute monies to the Waukee Fire Department Association and Waukee Rescue
Association in amounts set during the budget process.
All employees are reminded that the public purpose or benefit to the public must be kept in mind and
expenditures for these purposes deserves close scrutiny and such purposes shall not be abused.All
invoices for purchases authorized in this policy must be accompanied by a written explanation as to the
public purpose for the expenditure.
