NAMING OF GEN.L.A.GRANT PARKWAY
WHEREAS,the Major-General Lewis A.Grant founded the town of Waukee,Iowa in
1869;and

WHEREAS,the Honorable Donald L.Bailey,Jr.,and the City Council of the City of
Waukee would like to honor the memory and contributions made by Major-General
Lewis A.Grant to the City of Waukee;and
WHEREAS,Major-General Lewis A.Grant would be appropriately honored by the
naming of the street and it would provide this new area of development with a solid link
to Waukee's past;and
WHEREAS,Major-General Lewis A.Grant served our city,state and nation with
distinction as the founder of the City of Waukee;as a distinguished officer of the U.S.
Army and decorated veteran of the Civil War;and as Assistant Secretary of War under
President Harrison from AprilS,1890 to December 15,1893.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED,that the street running south from the comer
of Ashworth and University Avenue in the City of Waukee,Iowa is renamed L.A.Grant
Parkway in honor of the founder of Waukee Major-General Lewis A.Grant,and that the
City Clerk be directed to file this Resolution with the Dallas County Recorder's,
Assessor's,and Auditor's Office in accordance with Chapter 354.26 of the Code ofIowa.
